One million people per day are diagnosed with one of four common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and yet the only way to identify them is via a DNA test that can only be performed in labs that takes 3-7 days for results. The only self-test available is for HIV, and improvements to the testing of other STDs still include postage of samples to a laboratory for processing.
In 2020, consumers have learned to skip the doctor’s waiting room and take control of their health in a home setting by moving towards digital health solutions.
Testmate Health’s rapid digital test will for the first time, provide customers with an option for direct at-home self-testing with immediate results. The award-winning spin-off of University of Geneva gives customers the choice of a hassle-free, simple, easy-to-use immediate self test that enables prompt detection of these four common STDs:
- mycoplasma genitalium
Customers can skip the visit to a clinic and don’t have to wait days for a result. Results are scanned and uploaded to a paired app to guide patients towards appropriate follow-up if necessary.
This is how the medtech startup describes their mission on their website: „Our mission is to put you in charge of your own sexual health by making accurate testing easy and accessible, no matter who you are, or where you are. It is our aim to work in partnership with healthcare providers, to help minimize appointments and save your precious time. We believe slow access to tests means slow access to health – and it’s time to change that.“
Further test-kits for other diseases are in the pipeline to empower users to skip the waiting room, and take charge of their health from home.
