High-vacuum containers for reliable transport of sensitive biological materials
Modern therapies such as cell and gene treatments, IVF samples, stem cells, and advanced diagnostics require extremely stable temperature conditions during transport. Yet many shipments still rely on dry ice, which is difficult to handle and prone to temperature fluctuations that can compromise valuable therapies. Crìa Technologies develops high-vacuum insulated containers that dramatically reduce heat transfer. Its first product, Crìa Go, is shoulder-carriable, cabin-compatible, and operates with reusable ice packs instead of dry ice. It offers cryogenic-level performance while remaining simple to ship with standard couriers.
Crìa Technologies is rethinking how sensitive biological materials are transported, focusing on stability, simplicity, and reliability. The company develops high-vacuum insulated containers designed to maintain precise temperature conditions over extended periods, without relying on dry ice or complex logistics. Its approach adapts insulation principles used in aerospace to the requirements of modern healthcare supply chains.
The problem is both technical and critical. Advanced therapies such as cell and gene treatments, IVF materials, and stem cells are highly sensitive to temperature changes. Even small fluctuations during transport can damage or destroy these materials, directly affecting patient outcomes. Despite this, many shipments still depend on dry ice, which is difficult to handle, subject to regulatory constraints, and prone to temperature variation as it sublimates.
Crìa’s solution replaces this model with a compact, reusable container that significantly reduces heat transfer. Its first product, Crìa Go, combines high-vacuum insulation with advanced materials to deliver long-lasting thermal stability. The system is designed to be shoulder-carriable and cabin-compatible, allowing it to be transported easily, including on commercial flights. Instead of dry ice, it uses reusable cooling elements, simplifying handling and reducing operational constraints.
By combining high performance with ease of use, the system gives hospitals, laboratories, and cryobanks greater control over the transport of sensitive materials. It also opens up more flexible logistics options, as shipments can be handled through standard courier networks without the need for specialized infrastructure.
Crìa Technologies aims to make the transport of biological materials safer and more accessible worldwide. In the coming years, the company plans to support a wide range of users, from IVF clinics to cell therapy labs, with the goal of reducing sample loss and improving reliability across the cold chain.
Crìa Technologies, founded in July 2025, is led by co-founder and CEO Giancarlo Mattiello, who previously worked as a Project Manager at Strategy& PwC, leading projects in the aerospace, defense, and high-tech sectors across Europe and the Middle East. He is joined by co-founders Andrea Festa (COO), a space engineer with experience at Thales Alenia Space and Kearney; Vittorio Palmieri (CTO), a physicist at CERN, serial inventor, and former CTO of TVP Solar; and Antonio Velardi (CCO), who leads customer development and brings five years of sales and commercial experience.
