Natural, High Performing Materials for Outdoor Clothing
Current outdoor clothing is still often based on fluorinated chemistry (PFC). Unfortunately, these PFCs are non-natural chemicals that are very good at repelling water, which is why they have been used in clothing for about 50 years now. This led to the paradoxon that outdoor enthusiast have been bringing these chemicals into untouched nature and traces of them have added up to dangerous levels. These PFCs are also quite unhealthy for the person wearing the gear, hazardous levels that can cause health complications are not far from reached.
dimpora’s technology allows the creation of porous membranes based on a natural water repelling molecule, which they bring into their porous membranes to make them highly waterproof. To transport the molecule into the pores, the startup uses a natural mineral powder which is then removed to create the open porous system that provides the high breathability to keep an actively sweating body dry. The technology is independent of the starting material, this allows dimpora to use biobased and/or biodegradable materials which have not been accessible to the industry so far.
The Zurich based company’s mission is to constantly innovate and provide high-performance membranes that protect outdoor enthusiasts while leaving the least possible trace in nature.
CEO Mario Stucki and Co-Founder/CTO Anna Beltzung are currently scaling the production of their first product dimpora eco purTM from pilot to full scale to fulfill orders on a global scale.
